National Honor Society

About The National Honor Society:

According to The National Honor Society (NHS) Website, the society “is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1921.”

When can students join?

The Hicks High School Chapter of NHS is by invitation only for incoming Sophomores.  The invitation is based on the student’s Freshman GPA (3.25 or higher).  Transfer students are also eligible after one semester of the required GPA.  The initiation ceremony for incoming members typically takes place in September.

Is there a fee to join?

One initiated, students are required to perform XX number of volunteer hours over the course of a year.  These hours can be earned either in the school setting or in the community.  This summer, our students earned school hours by helping to paint classrooms.
